Improving Workplace Safety and Patient Care with CrisisAlert: Vail Health Behavioral Health’s Journey

About Vail Health Behavioral Health
In 2021, Vail Health established Colorado’s first Behavioral Health Entity, in response to an increase in community mental health needs.
A growing patient population prompted Vail Health’s journey to enhance safety, as the facility expanded to meet demands.
Feeling Unsafe
In 2023, Vail Health’s Behavioral Health clinic was successfully serving its community and expanding its offering to include additional specialized care. But, as their patient population became more complex, so did feelings around safety. Staff began noticing an increase in incidents where they felt unsafe.
Concerns were elevated to leadership, and a project was initiated to enhance safety within the clinic. However, one caveat required additional considerations—their plans for future growth.
Finding CrisisAlert™
The project team initiated a series of assessments with security experts. They began searching for a wearable, discreet safety solution that allowed staff to immediately summon help when needed.
A consultant recommended CENTEGIX CrisisAlert™, a wearable duress badge. The technology would empower their staff to immediately and discreetly signal for help anytime they needed, offering peace of mind to their employees.
“The immediate response is something I love…it’s not even a second after I hit my button,” Stiebel says about the responsiveness of CrisisAlert. “It’s that comfort and reassurance that my team is here for me and will help protect me and the clinic.”
The platform’s customizable integration features ensured CrisisAlert™ could scale to meet growth needs, allowing the organization to easily add new users and locations, and comply with expanding regulatory requirements.

Unexpected Benefits
Shortly after implementing CrisisAlert™, Vail Health noticed additional benefits surrounding continuity of care and patient experience. The ability for a staff member to summon help while in session, when further clinical support was required, became extremely valuable.
Another staff member credited CrisisAlert™ for saving a life by accelerating response efforts during a potential attempted suicide.
