The system has a very sophisticated mapping feature that allows responders to see exactly which room or hallway the emergency is coming from and from whom. In the event of a real active shooter, we could share this information with outside police agencies who may be coming to aid us.

This entire event—from the first shot that we heard to the time that law enforcement was heavily on the scene and responding and the threat was over—it was all done within three minutes. It just shows just how critical three minutes actually is. Saving lives comes down to seconds. And CENTEGIX was able to cut through a lot of the misunderstandings because we knew there was a lockdown, we knew we needed to respond, and we knew where to go.

It empowers teachers to be in control of the safety of their room. They can summon a principal at the push of a button. We know where and we know who. That is a powerful technology.

We love it. It’s such a great product. There are not too many things that are easy anymore, especially in education, and this is an easy one.

We don't want our staff to have to rely on their cell phones. Many of our schools don't have good cell service, as well as many staff members don't always have their phones on them. What we’ve really seen is the value in medical distress situations. A teacher can stay with a student, press the badge and get help to that classroom quickly.

The goal is to immediately notify everyone on campus that the school is under a threat and follow safety protocols as soon as possible.

That nurse wasn’t able to get on a phone and explain the situation, so they used their duress badge and help came immediately and deterred the situation.

If you’re not near a phone, if you don’t have a walkie, if you’ve got your cell phone laying on your desk, [you can’t get help]. So that’s what we were looking for: immediate communication from anywhere that would get people to you.

Workplace safety [is the] number one issue not only for the schools but also throughout the nation, so this gives an extra level of security for our staff members.
