Alabama K-12 Capital Grant Program
Alabama legislators prioritized K-12 Alabama school safety solutions during the 2023 regular legislative session. The Alabama K-12 Capital Grant Program established $179 million as a source of funding for capital projects in schools across the state. Up to $5 million per grant, eligible projects included technology improvements and school safety enhancements. Federal funding is available for similar projects; several national programs provide the funds Alabama districts need to invest in new infrastructure, technology, equipment, and other Alabama school safety solutions.
Alabama ETF Advancement and Technology Fund
The Alabama Education Advancement and Technology (A&T) Fund receives supplemental appropriations every year to fund one-time expenses for Alabama schools. Allowable expenses for these funds are outlined in Section 29-9-4, the Code ofAlabama, 1975 and include:
Acquiring, improving, or maintaining of facilities or technology
School security measures as a component of a systemwide security plan
Repairs or deferred maintenance of facilities
Classroom instructional support
Education technology and equipment
Insuring facilities
Transportation
In the Alabama State Board of Education September 2024 Meeting and Work Session, State Superintendent of Education Eric Mackey noted that next year the Education Advancement and Technology Fund will have about $1.6 billion available.
