From Warning to Action: District-Wide Clarity During Severe Weather
Weather Emergency
- On the morning of March 11, 2026 at 9:14 AM, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Southern Jay County, Indiana.
- The storm was later confirmed to have produced a tornado causing damage to trees and power poles.
- As severe weather developed, school leadership needed immediate clarity to act quickly and protect students and staff.
- At 9:35 AM, Assistant Principal Brad Milleman activated a Shelter Alert using the CENTEGIX® mobile app, initiating shelter-in-place protocols and delivering clear, consistent instructions that directed students and staff to their designated locations.
- At 9:37 AM, while off campus, Superintendent Jeremy Gulley used the mobile app to place all remaining schools into shelter-in-place.
Outcome
- With a tornado confirmed nearby, Jay School Corporation acted quickly to get students and staff in safe locations as the threat developed.
- The CENTEGIX Safety Platform® enabled consistent, real-time communication across campuses, ensuring every school followed the same protective action without delay.
- Leadership maintained control of the situation, even off campus, supporting a coordinated districtwide response.
- Building on prior tornado experience in March 2024, clear, immediate direction contributed to a calm and organized response.
