When Safety Comes First, Success Follows: Impacting Change at Limestone CHSD
The Challenge
- Limestone Community High School District 310 faced challenges in academics, attendance, and school safety, reflected in its 2023 “Targeted” Illinois Report Card designation.
- Chronic absenteeism was 43%, with 28% of students chronically truant, while 27% of teachers had more than ten absences.
- Student outcomes showed gaps, including a 77% graduation rate, an 80% ninth-grade on-track rate, and a dropout rate above 6%.
- School safety and student behavior were critical issues, with 83 reported incidents of physical violence recorded in 2023.
The Solution
- The district implemented a Strategic Plan in 2025 focused on improving academics, attendance, and school culture.
- Enhanced safety measures were introduced, including the CENTEGIX Safety Platform® and additional prevention and response initiatives.
- Academic pathways expanded through increased Advanced Placement participation, dual-credit opportunities, and career programs in fields such as engineering, healthcare, and skilled trades.
- Leadership maintained a focus on long-term sustainability with an aggressive facilities improvement plan and emphasis on fostering a positive, respectful, safe, and secure environment for students and staff.
The Results
- In 2025, chronic absenteeism dropped from 43% to 32%, and chronic truancy decreased from 28% to 23%.
- Teacher absenteeism improved, with those exceeding ten absences declining from 27% to 18%.
- Student outcomes strengthened, including a rise in graduation rates to 80%, ninth-grade on-track rates to over 91%, a dropout rate below 2%, and increased postsecondary enrollment.
- Incidents of physical violence fell from 83 to 12, a 71-point improvement.
- The district specifically attributes those outcomes in part to the CENTEGIX Safety Platform and other prevention and response measures.
