The Response Accelerator Awards recognizes organizations that have prioritized reducing the time it takes to respond to emergency situations based on the following criteria.

Identification: The first step in effectively addressing campus emergencies is being able to identify that an incident is occurring in the first place. Emergency alert systems must give all staff the ability to quickly, easily, and discreetly indicate that there is an emergency. These systems must be actively available and easily accessible to all staff anywhere on campus.

Notification: Lessons from tragedies such as Sandy Hook and Parkland remind us that time is of the essence in emergency situations. Emergency alert systems must accelerate communication to everyone on campus immediately, directing all individuals onsite to follow safety protocols and directly alerting local 911 emergency resources with precise location information. This approach reduces human error and delays that come with manual hand-off steps.

Response: The final essential step in resolving campus emergencies is maintaining rapid response from all relevant individuals. Onsite response teams must immediately receive emergency alert notifications with a map showing who needs help and precisely where they are located. This allows local 911 responders to take action to neutralize the situation.

Applications were submitted from the following:

A school district safety / security team

A district-based law enforcement organization

A municipal-based public safety team

A healthcare safety team

Award applications were reviewed by a panel of judges, composed of industry leaders in the school safety and K-12 spaces.

Awards presented on July 9, 2024, in Atlanta, GA, during the Campus Safety Conference
