Gov. Ferguson signs critical school safety legislation, becoming ninth state to pass law
Olympia, WA – [May 19, 2025] – CENTEGIX®, the leader in incident response solutions for K-12, applauds Gov. Bob Ferguson, Sen. Nikki Torres and the Washington Legislature following the signing of Senate Bill 5004, Alyssa’s Law. This legislation will mandate and fund the implementation of panic alert buttons in public schools across the state. Alyssa’s Law is named for Alyssa Alhadeff, a victim of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, and has been championed by Alyssa’s parents and founders of Make Our School Safe, Lori and Dr. Ilan Alhadeff. Alyssa’s Law has garnered bipartisan support across the country as the standard for school safety.
“Schools must be equipped with the latest safety tools to protect students and teachers,” said Sen. Torres (R-Pasco). “Updating emergency response systems is a critical step toward faster, more effective communication in crisis situations. This legislation reflects our commitment to ensuring our schools are safe places for learning and growth.”
Alyssa’s mother, Lori Alhadeff, spoke to the significance of this effort: “I want to thank Washington lawmakers for making school safety a priority. With the passage of this critical legislation, Washington joins a growing number of states committed to protecting students and educators. Time equals life, every time an alert is activated, that is Alyssa saving lives.”
The new law requires schools to adopt panic alert buttons such as CENTEGIX’s CrisisAlert™, a wearable badge that can notify school administrators and first responders immediately who needs help and precisely where they are located. Audio and visual notifications communicate to everyone campus-wide to follow emergency protocols, simultaneously sending a school into lockdown while immediately providing first responders with exact emergency location information, enabling them to respond faster. 96% of users report that the badge empowers them to rapidly resolve incidents from behavioral issues to medical emergencies.
“CENTEGIX was founded on the principle that technology can enhance safety and security. By empowering all school staff with a tool to act quickly, Washington’s leaders are helping to save valuable time in emergency situations,” said Brent Cobb, CEO of CENTEGIX. “Thanks to the leadership of Gov. Bob Ferguson, Sen. Nikki Torres, and the Washington Legislature in passing SB 5004, Washington schools are now better equipped to respond rapidly in critical situations, ultimately saving lives.”
Nationwide, CENTEGIX protects over 14,000 sites with four of the ten largest US school districts. Ninety-eight percent of alerts are attributed to everyday events, such as a medical emergency or student altercation. CrisisAlert operates via private networks, the ideal solution for schools where gaps in Wi-Fi and poor cellular signals can often disrupt connectivity.
